Hoozah!

One of our favorite days in Virginia was the day we spent in Colonial Williamsburg. Just for kicks, we also stopped by Christopher Newport University so that I could see how much it has changed in the six years since I graduated. We were in a rush to get back on the road so we only stopped for a minute but I was in awe of how the school has grown. The tiny, little known school now actually looks like a thriving university.

And then we made it to our final destination. Tom was starving so we got sandwiches from the Cheese Shop. He said they alone were worth the trip. We had no real plans. Brendan simply enjoys being out and about and watching everything that goes on. I enjoyed the fall scenery. This far south we don't get a fall. At all. It's been three years since I have gotten to see trees change color. I forgot what it looks like when the colored leaves cover the ground.

We ended up in the middle of a series of re-enactments. We were told that instead of shouting "Hooray!" the colonists shouted "Hoozah!"

While they played their music, Brendan decided to dance a jig.

Brendan saw dogs for the first time. He wasn't impressed when they were sitting nicely. But when they jumped and barked he laughed hysterically. Unfortunately, I couldn't hold onto him and get pictures at the same time. But I did get pictures of his first experience up close and personal with a horse.

And on our way to the car we happened upon a shop named just for Brendan.

So, of course we had to get his picture.

Family photos from our trip to follow. But it may take a few days.

Off We Go...

...into the wild blue yonder!

While at home in Virginia for two weeks, Tom and I decided to take the baby and head towards the Hampton Roads area. Our main destination was Colonial Williamsburg. Brendan was asleep so we passed Williamsburg and headed to Langley AFB to visit the air park and, well, to visit a prettier base.

There will be more pictures later. At the moment, Brendan is asleep and I am going to take full advantage of it. He no longer sleeps through the night so I am in dire need of a nap.

Out of Commission

I had high hopes for this first week of homemaking. Sadly, things did not turn out as I expected. SOMEbody got us all sick. One of the perils of having a child in daycare is having him bring every illness home. I cried about this in the pediatraician's office (more than once), and have been reassured that it is inevitable and will either happen now, or once he goes to kindergarten. He typically brings home the run of the mill cough and runny nose. This time it was worse. Much worse. But we are all three on the mend and are getting ready to head home for a visit before our big move.

Here are a few pictures from our first week at home.

We have such a good baby. He has even gotten good at going to sleep on his own. I will put him in his bed and once he's quiet for a while I'll go check on him and cover him up. This was the first time he had fallen asleep snuggling a stuffed animal.

Of course, I think this is extra sweet since I still sleep with a baby blanket. Yeah, you read that right.

Sometimes I put him in his bed for a nap and he simply plays until he has had enough. Then he hollers for me to come get him. This is what I found one afternoon this week.
The little buzzard figured out how to get into a sitting position on his own! Of course, that was photo worthy.

Wednesday was the worst day for Tom and me. We had both been up sick all night. Thank goodness for such a good baby. He pretty much played on his own all day. Well, since then he has been a little cranky. Why? You may ask. I think it's because he's getting his first tooth. Finally. Unfortunately, I have no pictures of it, but we can see it. And we can feel it.

Yesterday morning we had to scramble to get our first shipment of necessities ready to be shipped to Japan. Off went Brendan's crib. And high chair. And bouncer. It's quite difficult entertaining a baby without the majority of the stuff he's used to. Last night Daddy (genius that he is) decided Brendan needed something new to do.

That's about it for this week.

Hopefully, by the time we get home Tom and I will feel like eating again. We should get plenty of dinners out since we'll have a family of willing babysitters. Right, guys?

Happy Halloween!

He had a black nose and whiskers. They lasted approximately 30 seconds before he rubbed them off.

There's no candy in those cheeks. They're just chubby.
