Thirty

This weekend I turned 30.  And the day before my birthday I found my first grey hairs.  Hairs plural.  I plucked them immediately.

We joined the church we've been attending, and that night we ate dinner at the Garlic House, one of our favorite restaurants, with some friends, and had some birthday ice cream for dessert.

Monday we went to another one of our favorite places - the Churaumi Aquarium.  It was the first time we didn't use the stroller.

He decided to join another family for the dolphin show.

Hope your weekend was as fun as ours!

All Aboard!

In case I haven't mentioned it before, Brendan's favorite thing is a choo choo.  He puts his Percy choo choo to "night night" on his bookshelf each night, and the first thing he talks about when he wakes up is playing with a choo choo.  He takes choo choos with us in the car, most of his favorite books are about choo choos, and he plays choo choo games on my phone.

Tom ordered him an electric Thomas the train a few weeks ago.  He started to second guess himself because it's technically a toy for bigger kids, so we canceled the order and ordered him a wooden toddler train set instead.  Well, somehow walmart.com didn't accept the cancellation and the other day we got BOTH sets in the mail.

I guess it was just meant to be.

He is only allowed to play with the electric one under strict supervision.  And even then he often gets into big trouble with it.

He is allowed to work the controls, but he's not supposed to touch the cars themselves....which, for a two-year-old, is like asking him not to breathe.

When the train is put up, he stands at the closet and begs, "Other one! Out!"

On the other hand, the wooden train set stays out most of the time.  And I'm pretty sure it's about the only toy he has played with since he got it.

Coincidentally, these Thomas jammies arrived in the mail on the same day.  I ordered him two pairs.  And it is a struggle to get them off of him in the mornings.  He may end up at school in PJs one day soon.

And now I have to go get myself ready for work and think up a good reason for him to take off his choo choo PJs.  Grandmas - if you come across any Thomas shirts, send them our way.  I'll pay you for them.

Forest Adventure

I was given some really important advice recently.  I was told to show my son how much I love him by showing him how much I love his dad.  What he meant was:  Let Brendan stay with someone else while we take time to be together.  So Brendan went to daycare Friday, and Tom and I went zip lining.

I was so scared I wanted to back out.

You get instructions on how to hook yourself on to the lines, they make you do a practice, and then you're off.  As in on your own.  I thought there would be an attendant at each spot to verify that you have hooked yourself in properly.  Not the case.

And the lines were higher up that either of us expected.

And we're off!

Obviously, I did not die, and we both loved it.

There was more than just zip lines...like this weird bouncy bridge.

We thought we were finished, and then found the Adventure Course.

It's very difficult to really understand what this first station in the Adventure Course was.  I climbed right up, not sure what I was supposed to do.  I got to the top and the man up there hooked me in.  I asked him what I was supposed to do and he said, "Jump."  I thought he was nuts.  You jump off the highest platform on the pole and swing into the cargo net.  I asked him if I could climb back down the ladder.  It took me a few minutes, but I knew if I didn't do it, I would be sorry.  So I did.  And it scared me to death.

Videos in case you are interested....
